Town of Grant Monthly Board Meeting
Grant Town Hall – 7:30 p.m.
April 6, 2009
The monthly meeting of the Grant Town Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Grant Town Hall. Roll Call: Richard Britzke, Bill Bowers, Dale Klitz, Rick Grunewald, and Kay Blum. Ten residents and guests were in attendance. Guests included Jerry Erdman, Arlyn Tober and Kathy Bazile.
Chairman Britzke read the agenda which was published in The Marion Advertiser on April 2, 2009. Additional items added for discussion included a citizen complaint about dead animals on private property. A motion was made by Klitz/Britzke to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to approve the minutes of the previous town board meeting. Motion carried.
Public comments: No public comments were heard.
County update: County Supervisors, Jerry Erdman and Arlyn Tober, addressed the board. Jerry directed the board to contact the finance department for more information about the environmental impact grant award for the Caroline Dam. Arlyn reported on the state budget and its impact on shared revenue.
Open Book and Board of Review: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to hold the Open Book session for review of the assessment roll on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 commencing at 5:30 p.m. and running for a minimum of two hours followed by the Board of Review commencing at 7:30 p.m. and running for a minimum of two hours at the Grant Town Hall. Motion carried. The assessors will be available during the open book session to address any concerns regarding recent assessments. Residents are advised to contact the town clerk for specific details on how to object to an assessment.
License: A motion was made by Klitz/Britzke to approve the alcohol beverage license application for the Caroline Baseball Club. Motion carried. Licensed bartenders for the baseball club are Jill Verg, Travis Verg, Wendy Verg and Jeremy Schoenike.
Plan Commission: Ken Huebner reported that Ruth Kopitzke is resigning from the commission. Sue Raether has agreed to fill the vacancy. The board will act on this in May. A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to appoint Ken Huebner and Gene Mehlberg for additional 3 year terms on the plan commission. Motion carried. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the Grant Town Hall.
Town Hall: A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to approve the following town hall reservations: Audrey Pockat on March 21, 2009; Grace Miller on April 4, 2009; Marjorie Papendorf on April 11, 2009; Caroline Aces 4-H on April 19, 2009; Debra Norder on May 9, 2009; and Jeffrey Kriesel on August 8, 2009. Motion carried.
Baseball diamond: The board reviewed a diagram indicating a possible land purchase from Zion Lutheran Church. This matter will be discussed at the annual meeting on April 14th. The guidelines created last fall were reviewed.
Caroline Dam: The final repairs on the dam were discussed.
Complaint: The board reviewed a complaint about dead animals on private property on Swamp Road. The clerk will forward a certified letter to the resident following the guidelines set forth in the Shawano County Nuisance Ordinance.
Roads: The board discussed a request to transport large loads of manure on town roads. The board felt this should be delayed until after April 12th due to weight limits on roads at this time. A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to hire a tree trimming/chipping service at a total cost of $3,000 to clean up trees along roadways. Motion carried.
Payment of invoices: A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to approve the payment of checks 1050-1052 in the environmental account and 6052-6087 in the regular checking account. Motion carried.
Adjourn: A motion was made by Britzke/Klitz to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
