Town of Grant Monthly Board Meeting
Grant Town Hall - 7:30 p.m.
January 4, 2010
The monthly meeting of the Grant Town Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2010 at the Grant Town Hall. Roll Call: Richard Britzke, Bill Bowers, Dale Klitz, Rick Grunewald, and Kay Blum. Nine residents and guests were in attendance.
Chairman Britzke read the agenda which was published in The Marion Advertiser on December 31, 2009. Added for discussion were the fire department radio upgrades and cheese factory property. A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to approve the minutes of the December 7, 2009 town board meeting. Motion carried.
County update: County Supervisors Arlyn Tober and Jerry Erdman commented on a Department of Revenue proposal to establish a county-wide system for assessment of property.
Public comment period: Judy Schewe addressed the town board regarding the Working Lands Initiative and how this might affect farmland preservation in our township. She was directed to check with the county zoning department.
Weed commissioner: A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to appoint Mike Fritz as weed commissioner for the Town of Grant. Motion carried.
Fire department: A federal mandate requires all emergency radios and pagers to switch to narrowband frequencies by 2012. The fire department needs to replace 12 radios at an estimated cost of $4800. The siren box may also need to be upgraded and that is estimated to run $3100. There will also be programming costs. The department did receive a grant for $8400 that was used to purchase new pagers and upgrade the radios in the trucks.
Plan commission and zoning: Gene Mehlberg reported that the next meeting of the plan commission will be held on January 12, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the Grant Town Hall. A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to approve the appointment of Armond Schmidt to the plan commission to complete the term of Jim Radtke. Motion carried. Steve Skotzke appeared before the board regarding development of the cheese factory property. He is seeking board approval before scheduling a county hearing for potential zone changes and variances he may need. The board will discuss this information with the plan commission at its next meeting and make a recommendation at that time.
Budget resolution: A motion was made by Britzke/Klitz to approve Budget Resolution 2010-01. Motion carried.
WDC resolution: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to approve the Resolution for Inclusion in the Wisconsin Deferred Compensation program. Motion carried.
Roads: No action was taken on roads.
Town hall: A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to approve town hall reservations for the following: Audrey Pockat for January 10, 2010; Shawano County Health Clinic on January 21, 2010. Motion carried.
Closed/open session: A motion was made by Britzke/Klitz to move into closed session according to ss 19.85(1)(b) and ss 19.85(1)(c) for employee considerations. Motion carried. A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to move back into open session. Motion carried.
Action from closed session: A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to increase the hourly wage for Mike Fritz an additional $0.75 per hour. Motion carried.
Pay bills: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to approve the payment of checks 6331 through 6357 in the regular checking account and 1071 through 1073 in the environmental account. Motion carried.
Adjourn: A motion was made by Britzke/Klitz to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
