July 22, 2008 Town Board Meeting

The Grant Town Board met on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grant Town Hall. Roll Call: Richard Britzke, Bill Bowers, Dale Klitz, and Kay Blum. Residents in attendance included Art Plaster, Rory Mehlberg, Terry Verg and Tony Wudstrack.

The agenda was properly noticed by posting in the three public places in the Town of Grant on July 18, 2008 and on the town’s web site. The agenda included 1) approve the contract from Great Lakes Marine for repairs to the powerhouse on the Caroline Dam; 2) motion to rescind the July 14 motion to loan money to Roy Kleisch for the dam repairs, and 3) discussion and action to establish rules and guidelines for use of the baseball diamond and to designate an individual to make decisions about the use of the field.

Agenda: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to accept the agenda. Motion carried.

Baseball diamond rules and guidelines: Art Plaster representing the women’s softball league, Terry Verg representing the BABA, Tony Wudstrack representing Little League and Rory Mehlberg representing 4-H softball were present to establish some guidelines for use of the baseball diamond. Several items of maintenance, such as raking and dragging the field were discussed and those will be made a part of a list of guidelines and given to each representative team. The teams have been using the old town riding mower to drag the infield. In order to avoid liability issues with the town’s insurer, it was decided that the lawn mower should be donated to the baseball teams.

Old lawn mower: A motion was made by Klitz/Britzke to donate the old town lawn mower to the various baseball teams to use for infield maintenance. Motion carried.

Caretaker: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to name Mike Fritz as the caretaker of the baseball diamond and to give Mike authority to make decisions to cancel games due to inclement weather and/or field conditions. A town board member will serve as an alternate caretaker when Mike is not available. Motion carried.

Guidelines: A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to approve the guidelines for maintenance as discussed for the baseball diamond and the teams. Motion carried.

Curfew: A motion was made by Britzke/Klitz to establish a curfew of 12 midnight for all night games played at the Caroline Baseball Diamond.

Motion to rescind: A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to rescind the July 14, 2008 motion to loan money to Roy Kleisch for the powerhouse repairs. Motion carried.

Contract: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to approve the contract of Great Lakes Marine for the powerhouse repairs on the Caroline Dam at a cost of $31,300.00. Motion carried.

Adjourn: A motion was made by Klitz/Britzke to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,
Kay Blum, Clerk
