Special Town Meeting – Grant Town Hall
June 1, 2009 – 7:30 p.m.
A Special Town Meeting of the Electors for the Town of Grant was held pursuant to Sec. 60.12(1)(a) Wis. Stats. at the date, place, and time listed above. Notices for the meeting were published on May 14th and 28th and properly posted in the township as required.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Chairman Britzke. Ten residents, three board members, one guest, the town clerk and treasurer were in attendance. The agenda included discussion and action on a request by First State Bank and Roy Kleisch to obtain a lien on the lease Roy has with the Town of Grant for operating his hydroelectric unit in the Caroline Dam.
Mike Papendorf, representing First National Bank, presented a document entitled “Assignment of Lease for Collateral Purposes.” Mike asked the town to consider assigning the lease agreement between Roy Kleisch and the town with regard to the hydroelectric power equipment housed in the Caroline Dam, to the bank for loan collateral.
The town clerk read a letter from Attorney Tim Schmid advising the town not to consent to the assignment. Attorney Schmid’s letter indicated that there was “no benefit” to the town in agreeing to this assignment. There was continued discussion among the residents present at the meeting. The town board asked for an advisory vote from the residents. A motion was made by Robert Schraut and seconded by Dennis Schoen to deny the assignment of aforementioned lease to First National Bank. A show of hands indicated that ten residents voted to approve the motion while one voted against it. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Dennis Schoen and seconded by Robert Schraut to adjourn the special town meeting. Motion carried.
