Town of Grant Monthly Board Meeting
Grant Town Hall – 7:30 p.m.
March 2, 2009
The monthly meeting of the Grant Town Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Grant Town Hall. Roll Call: Richard Britzke, Bill Bowers, Dale Klitz, Rick Grunewald, and Kay Blum. Seven residents and guests were in attendance.
Chairman Britzke read the agenda which was published in The Marion Advertiser on February 26, 2009. Additional items added for discussion included garbage collection, dog licensing and progress on the transmission line. A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to approve the minutes of the previous town board meeting. Motion carried.
Public comments: An inquiry was made regarding the towns involvement on a forthcoming foreclosure. This property received a loan for improvements through the Community Development Block Grant previously awarded to the town. The county zoning office continues to deal with the issue of the shower trailer.
County update: County Supervisors Arlyn Tober and Jerry Erdman stated that the proposed permit fee increase submitted by the zoning department was defeated. The zoning advisory committee was approved with the county paying the mileage costs for attendees. There was a brief update on the status of Maple Lane.
Plan commission: Ken Huebner provided a brief update on the county plan. Ken will submit first quarter bills and mileage for commission members.
Zoning: Henselin Farm’s Inc. plans to close the gravel pit on their property. A town zoning official will make the appropriate recommendation to county zoning so this can be accomplished.
Annual meeting: The annual meeting for the Town of Grant will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grant Town Hall. There will be a discussion regarding the possible purchase of Zion Lutheran Church property adjacent to the baseball diamond.
Roads: The board discussed getting some quotes for a brush/tree cutting service to remove dead trees on various roads in the township.
Town hall: A motion was made by Klitz/Britzke to approve town hall reservations for the following: Dave Buss on May 3, 2009; Tiffani Johnson on May 10, 2009; Dave Krueger to cancel August 9 and reserve August 2, 2009; 4-H Club on March 8, 2009. Motion carried.
Building inspection and Caroline dam: No action was taken on these agenda topics.
Baseball Diamond: The board members will review the established rules for the baseball diamond at the next meeting. Coaches should forward their schedules to the town clerk as soon as those are available for posting on the web site. Mike Fritz suggested some improvements to the batters boxes and other areas that he will do this spring.
Dog licenses: The board reviewed a letter from the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department regarding the licensing of dogs. All dogs in the township 5 months of age and older must have a license and rabies shot. The license must be purchased by April 1 of each year. Contact Rick Grunewald, town treasurer, to obtain a license.
ATC: The transmission line work in the township is nearing completion.
Garbage: Bill Bowers commented that Kurt Klinner from the Town of Morris is starting a new waste hauling business and he is seeking new contracts.
Pay Bills: A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to approve the payment of checks 6019 through 6054 in the regular checking account and check number 1049 in the environmental impact fund account. Motion carried.
Adjourn: A motion was made by Britzke/Bowers to adjourn the meeting.
