Town of Grant Monthly Board Meeting
Grant Town Hall – 7:30 p.m.
May 5, 2008
The monthly meeting of the Grant Town Board was held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Grant Town Hall. Roll Call: Bill Bowers, Dale Klitz, Rick Grunewald, and Kay Blum. Richard Britzke arrived at 8:20 p.m. Seventeen residents and guests were in attendance.
Dale Klitz read the agenda which was published in The Marion Advertiser on May 1, 2008. A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to approve the minutes of the previous town board meeting. Motion carried.
County update: Jerry Erdman and Arlyn Tober gave a brief update of activities at the county level.
Fire Tanker Bids: The town board received three bids for the fire tanker and chassis from Welch Fire Equipment, Seagrave and Custom Fab & Body. Welch Fire Equipment bid: Peterbilt chassis and tanker - $169,325 or Sterling chassis and tanker - $161,025. Seagrave bid: Peterbilt chassis and tanker - $247,768. Custom Fab & Body: Peterbilt chassis and tanker - $184,033 or Kenworth chassis and tanker $183,494. Members of the fire department who reviewed the bids stated that the Welch bid did not follow the specifications as requested. Final approval of a contractor will take place on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Grant Town Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Baseball diamond: Final placement of the lights for the baseball diamond may require a survey to ensure they are set on town property and do not become a liability issue for the adjoining property owner on the east side of the diamond.
Caroline dam: Roy Kleish addressed the board regarding the repairs on the dam. He stated that he is willing to make repairs on the flume and turbine house and that he would like to see the engineers’ report once it is available. Roy also stated that he is interested in extending his contract with the town and that he may be upgrading the turbine within the next two years.
Plan Commission: Ken Huebner stated that there will be a cluster meeting on May 14, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Springs Town Hall in Gresham. Townships in the cluster will share and discuss their final draft plans. An open house will be held soon in the Town of Grant for final review of its comprehensive plan.
Town hall: A motion was made by Bowers/Klitz to approve town hall reservations for the following: Arlene Wuske, July 12, 2008; Rachel Handrich, May 17, 2008; and Caroline Aces 4-H, May 18, 2008. Motion carried. The shelving has been updated in the large storage room. Mike Fritz will get some quotes for the replacement of the basement windows.
Blacktopping bids: The town board received one bid for blacktopping. A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers to accept the bid from Scott Construction for cold mix blacktopping at $40.68 per ton or $52,884 per mile to include seal coating and crack filling services. Motion carried.
Environmental impact fund: A motion was made by Klitz/Bowers that $50,000 of the one-time environmental impact fee payment be set aside and made available to groups and organizations in the Town of Grant and to approve the application form created for that purpose. Motion carried. Groups and organizations in the Town of Grant may submit applications for funds for environmentally related projects. Application forms are available from town board members, the clerk and treasurer. Information will be posted on the message boards. Contact a town board member or the clerk for more information.
Roads: The board discussed a few road issues. No action was taken.
Town truck bids: The town board received five bids for a new town truck chassis. V and H Truck, $96,430; L & S Truck Center, $93,321; Quality Truck Care Center, $90,925; Wausau Truck, $105,929 and Peterbilt of Wausau, $106,921. The board will meet on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 to review the bids and approve a contractor.
Pay bills: A motion was made by Klitz/Britzke to approve the payment of checks 5670 through 5696. Motion carried.
Adjourn: A motion was made by Britzke/Bower to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
